Tu+kino

Roma DO exist in movies!

Really! We’re just often invisible. And that’s true both for big film productions and for prime-time television broadcasts.

Tu+kino is therefore diving into uncharted waters and bringing the best from Roma filmmakers to (not only) Roma audiences. The films are diverse, ambitious, and high-quality. Comedies, dramas, horrors, documentaries, animated films. Everything you can think of, and all of it in Brno!

First and foremost, we present a rich industry program, led almost exclusively by Roma filmmakers. The audience will get an insight into their upcoming projects and meet them in person! An integral part of the festival includes screenings of films by Roma creators or films that address Romani themes.

The Tu+kino Festival (Tu as in Romani You) was born in the offices of the Roma audiovisual platform Tuke.TV. Originally, it was meant to be a reflection of the international Roma festival Ake Dikhea?, which takes place every year in Berlin. However, we quickly realized that we would rather organize our own independent festival. The Tuke.TV team, led by producer Alica Sigmund Heráková, therefore came together and is bringing the first-ever Roma film festival to the Czech Republic.

The festival's goal is to show that Roma also go to the cinema and live through film. To show that our personalities are as diverse as Romani identity itself, and that our stories don't clash with the glass of stereotypes that non-Roma filmmakers so often place us in.

Long live Roma film! And we look forward to seeing you

at the Television Institute on Dominican Square 11 in Brno!
